Founded by Portuguese winemaker António Maçanita
and English viticulturalist David Booth in 2004, Fitapreta is on a
mission to make the best wines in the Alentejano. This is a large, hot
region where great care must be taken to avoid making wines that are too
alcoholic and overblown. Working closely with their growers, they seek
fruit mostly from the local schist soils that are best suited to
amplifying the charms of the native varieties they work with. Treatments
to the vines are kept to a minimum, and everything is done with health
of the fruit in mind. While David sadly passed away in 2012, his legacy
to Fitapreta has been vineyards and grower relationships that have only
grown stronger as time has passed.
